Mary Spilde accepts CEO of the Year Award at ACCT in Dallas |
EUGENE, OR - Dr. Mary Spilde, president of Lane Community College, was named CEO of the Year by the Association of Community College Trustees at its annual congress in Dallas, Texas. The prestigious 2011 Marie Y. Martin Chief Executive Award was announced October 14 at the association's awards event.
Nominees are from any of the 1,200 community, technical and junior colleges in the United States, Canada, and other countries served by ACCT, a non-profit educational organization representing elected and appointed trustees at two-year colleges. The CEO of the Year is selected from five regional award winners.
Spilde has served as president of Lane since August 2001 and is past president of the American Association of Community Colleges. She is a national authority on community colleges, workforce development, and sustainability. She serves on numerous boards.
In July, Spilde was appointed to AACC's 21st-Century Commission on the Future of Community Colleges. She is the only commission member from Oregon. It is the third commission in the 110-year history of community colleges, after the Truman Commission in 1947 and the AACC Futures Commission in 1988.
In August, Spilde was appointed by Gov. John Kitzhaber to the Oregon Education Investment Board. She is one of 12 board members. Appointees are scheduled for Senate confirmation hearings in November.
Spilde has a bachelor's and a law degree from the University of Edinburgh, Scotland, and a master's and doctorate from Oregon State University.
