CHAMBERS COMMUNICATIONS NAMED EMPLOYER OF THE YEAR

Chambers Communications was named Cooperative Education Employer of the Year. Photography Director Leonard Henderson helped mentor 56 students. The company has hired 41 LCC graduates. |
Eugene, Ore. - Mentoring 56 media arts students over the past two decades and hiring 41 of them helped Chambers Communications of Eugene win the 2009 Cooperative Education Employer of the Year Award from Lane Community College.
Chambers operates three ABC affiliates, including KEZI 9 in Eugene, and Chambers Productions, a film and video production company. Lane students have interned as grips, production assistants, videographers, writers, directors, and many other positions, through Lane’s Cooperative Education program. Co-op integrates job experience with classroom studies for 2,000 students and 800 employers a year, making Lane’s program one of the largest in the nation.
"Chambers offers students a top-rated co-op experience," says Teresa Hughes, media arts instructor and multimedia design program co-op coordinator at Lane. "Chambers photography director, Leonard Henderson, has supervised our students for more than 25 years. He takes the time not only to build knowledge and skills, but also to build confidence. Students are job-ready when they complete their internships."
"Leonard has given back to these students, as we all should, to thank those who have mentored us. We are very proud of the connections he has made with so many students," said Scott Chambers, president of Chambers Communications.
The 2009 Cooperative Education Employer of the Year Award will be presented at the annual Advisory Committee Gala on Tuesday, April 28, beginning at 5 p.m., with the presentation about 7 p.m., at the Center for Meeting and Learning, building 19, main campus in Eugene, 4000 E. 30th Avenue.
