Human dragonfly to be formed at LCC

EUGENE, OR - A field art image called Dragon Fly Dream-Art for the Sky, will be formed by students from Lane Community College and local schools under the direction of Oregon conceptual artist, educator and author Daniel Dancer, on Friday, October 14, at 2:15 p.m. on Bristow Square, the lawn on the north side of the Center Building, main campus. The formation will be preceded by workshops on the art, history and perceptions behind the project, for students from Lane, Oakhill School, Wellsprings School, Network Charter School, and anyone interested in attending. Workshop participants will be invited to join Friday's assembly.
Dancer will arrange participants by color of recycled clothing and materials into a dragonfly image. Other sky art images by Dancer can be viewed at http://www.inconcertwithnature.com Dancer learned about sky art while traveling in South America and observing the famous Nazca Lines of Peru.
The Art in the Sky schedule:
Wednesday, October 12: 1-2 p.m., presentation on art, history and perception, Performance Hall, Building 6 with LCC and Oakhill School students; and 2:30 p.m., site preparation, Bristow Square, north of Center Building.
Thursday, October 13: 9:30-10:30 a.m., presentation with Wellsprings and Network Charter School students, Performance Hall, Building 6; and 11 a.m., site preparation, Bristow Square, north of Center Building.
Friday, October 14: 9 a.m., final site preparation, Bristow Square; and
2:15-3:45 p.m., creation of the Dragon Fly Dream Art for the Sky image; and 4-5:30 p.m., debriefing workshop, Center for Meeting and Learning, Building 19.
Art in the Sky events are sponsored by Lane's Division of the Arts and the Oregon Bioneers Conference. Art in the Sky participants need not be registered for the conference, which takes place October 14-16 at Lane.
The Oregon Bioneers Conference offers activities and workshops addressing health, community and global issues. It is one of 17 concurrent conferences in the United States with local presenters and events. Lane's conference also will connect by satellite to the national Bioneers Conference in San Rafael, Calif. For more information contact Jennifer Hayward at 453-5594.
