LCC accreditation evaluation preliminary report
EUGENE, OR - An accreditation evaluation team from the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities concluded a three-day, full-scale evaluation site visit at Lane Community College last week, as part of the college's application for reaffirmation of accreditation. Full-scale visits occur every 10 years in the accreditation process.
Lane prepared
for the visit over the past two years by conducting a
comprehensive self study to identify the college's strengths, challenges
and plans for improvement. More than 130 faculty, classified staff,
managers, administrators, and students participated in the self study.
The self study report is available online at http://2011sitearchive.lanecc.edu/selfstudy/index.htm.
The evaluation team
thoroughly reviewed the report in addition to conducting the site
visit.
In an exit
interview meeting on October 8, the evaluation team chair
shared some preliminary findings which may be included in the final
report. Three commendations were given, for commitment and excellence of
faculty, staff and administration; entrepreneurial service to community;
and collaborative community partnerships. Two recommendations addressed
the evaluation of part-time faculty; and the assessment of learning at
the program level. The evaluation team report will go to the full
commission who will determine Lane's accreditation status and issue a
final report in January.
NWCCU is the regional accrediting authority for higher education in a seven-state region including Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, and Washington. It is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and the Council for Higher Education.
Lane was last fully accredited in 1994. The commission completed an interim visit at Lane in 1999.
