40th anniversary open house is October 19
EUGENE, OR - The community is invited to honor the past and envision the future of Lane Community College at the 40th Anniversary Community Open House on Tuesday, October 19, from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. in the Center for Meeting and Learning, Building 19, on the west side of main campus at 4000 E. 30th Avenue, Eugene.
Lane President Mary Spilde and Founding President Dale Parnell will present remarks at 12:15 p.m. Enjoy refreshments from Lane's award-winning culinary arts students, browse an historical photo display, watch a DVD depicting how Lane transforms lives, and pick up a commemorative 40th anniversary calendar.
On October 19, 1964, Lane County citizens voted to establish a community college district by a 5-to-1 margin in a special election. It was a transformational investment in our area's educational, economic and cultural future. Today, Lane is the first choice for education and training for a diverse cross section of our community: a single mom on welfare learning marketable skills; a displaced worker retraining for a new career; a major employer seeking customized employee training; a high school graduate seeking the first two years of her undergraduate degree; a small business owner learning how to boost profitability; a retiree pursing lifelong learning. Taxpayers see an annual return of 18.9 percent on their investment in Lane, and students earn an additional $2,088 in annual income for every year they complete. Lane is known as the premier economic development agency in our area, and is recognized as one of the best community colleges in the country by the League for Innovation in the Community College.
