Asian Pacific Cuisine with Hawaii Chef Kusuma Cooray Summer Academy at Lane Community College
EUGENE - Whether you are a chef, a serious home cook or just a food lover, this culinary journey is for you. Chef Kusuma Cooray is a native of Sri Lanka and one of Hawaii’s most celebrated chefs. She is presently a professor and chef-instructor at the Culinary Institute of the Pacific, Kapi’olani Community College, and University of Hawaii. Chef Cooray is known for her blending of fresh Asian herbs and spices with western ingredients to create flavorful dishes that please both the eye and the palate.
Chef Cooray will be in Eugene for a two-day class at Lane Community College on July 15 and 16, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. She will use her cookbook, Burst of Flavor, The Fine Art of Cooking with Spices (2001), to guide students though an array of cooking demonstrations and hands-on experiences. This delightful culinary journey will conclude with a dinner at 6:00 p.m. on the 16th.
The cost of the two-day class is $250. This includes a personally signed cookbook, many tastings, and dinner. Additional tickets to the dinner are available for $35 each. The class is limited to the first 24 participants. For more information, call Robin Johnson at 463-3518.
