Popular teacher returns to Lane campus to sign her memoir
EUGENE - Paula Lutz, Lane Community College's first anthropology instructor, returns to campus Thursday, May 13, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. to sign copies of her book, “To Teach is to Love.” The signing will be held in the college bookstore, Center Building, main campus, 4000 E. 30th Avenue, Eugene. The book was published by Classic Day Publishing of Seattle, 2004.
In the book, Lutz recalls her birth in a small Idaho town, an early marriage and graduate work at the University of Oregon, leading to a position at Lane. She tells of amusing, and at times touching, moments with her students and explains three of her "nurturing" lectures especially favored by her students.
Since retiring, Lutz has traveled extensively to archeological sites in England, Scotland and Ireland and lectured in the Portland area. She currently belongs to the Portland Art Museum's Native American Art Council and travels to Anchorage, Alaska to view tribal dancing.
