Lane Community College has developed a Chemical Hygiene Plan for use by employees who are engaged in the laboratory use of hazardous chemicals.  The purpose of this plan is to identify safety and health guidelines to be used when working with hazardous chemicals or conducting hazardous processes.

This plan is to be reviewed at least annually for pertinent application to laboratory work and safe work procedures.  The plan should be updated within three months if new chemicals, processes or additional information about hazards are received by the department.

The Chemical Hygiene officer (CHO) is the employee who has been given added responsibility for the overall safety and health program for these laboratories.  The CHO is to be selected because of their knowledge of the processes and the occupational safety and health aspects of working with the chemicals in labs.

The Chemical Hygiene officer for the college is the Science department chair.

The body of the plan is general in nature and provides direction for safety in all college laboratories.  Procedures and practices which are unique to individual departments are contained in the appendices.

In some instances, departments may form committees to assist in the monitoring of the activities contained in this plan.  These committees are included in the department's individual section in the appendices.

The Chemical Hygiene Plan (CHP) will be available in the following locations:
 

1. Facilities Management and Planning;

2. Human Resources; and

3. Science.
