The state revenue picture continues to deteriorate, placing Lane Community
College in the position of making difficult choices.
-
A shortfall of $6.2 million currently is projected for 2003-2004, about
9 percent of our current general fund budget of $69,597,518.
-
As responsible stewards of the communityís resources we must balance access,
affordability and quality now and for the future.
-
We concluded that cutting more programs than recommended today would further
limit choices for students and the community, particularly at a time when
Lane is a critical part of the solution to economic recovery.
-
Although Lane County has always been supportive of education in general
and Lane Community College in particular, Oregonians are not willing to
continue paying 75 percent of studentsí education. Legislators and businesses
tell us to generate more revenue and the governor is calling for fiscal
accountability.
-
Tuition and fees are the only major revenue sources under our control.
-
Lane has moved from a tax supported to a tax assisted organization.
-
Budget recommendations for 2003/04 are to maintain a comprehensive program
of professional-technical, transfer, workforce, business, developmental,
and personal enrichment offerings within fiscal constraints.
