Welcome to the Lane Community College Bond Information website for Measure 20-142. The bond will update instructional facilities, equipment and technology.
Training the Workforce
Lane must meet our county’s current demand for career and technical training that develops the workforce employers need. For example, Lane’s nursing program receives over 300 applicants each year but can only accept 72 students. Auto technicians are in short supply. Employers are asking the college to expand access to training for nursing and other health professions and renewable energy technology, and to offer training opportunities in physical therapy assistant, pharmacy technician and many other fields. Lane needs to upgrade its facilities and technology to meet these needs.
The following are some of the programs that would be affected by the bond:
Health Professions
- Improve science labs for prerequisite classes by improving technology and equipment on main campus and creating a science lab in Florence
- Together with the Health and Wellness Center the bond will create a Health Professions complex to house programs in nursing, respiratory therapy, physical therapy assistant, paramedic, therapeutic and rehabilitation, fitness trainer education, medical office assistant and health record technology. Hundreds of jobs in Lane County have been projected in these areas in the next 10 years.
Outdated Facilities, Equipment and Technology
Lane Community College is working to meet the needs of our communities by educating more students as they retrain or upgrade their skills to join the workforce. However, the technology and equipment used in many programs is outdated and does not meet industry standards for the jobs of today and the future.
Modernized technology is needed to expand distance learning opportunities so that students can access education without driving to campus or on their own schedule as they balance working with education.
Many of Lane’s buildings have not been updated for over 40 years. They are more costly to maintain and not energy efficient. The college has many repair and upgrade needs that the bond would address resulting in lower operational costs.
