Welcome to Adult Basic & Secondary Education
(Administrative Office, Building #11 Room 201)

Adult Basic and Secondary Education (ABSE) classes are designed for adult learners who need to learn or re-learn basic reading, writing, math, or employment skills. ABSE students come from many walks of life, and are attending our classes for many different reasons. When you walk into one of our classrooms, you’re likely to find:

  • Adults and teens preparing for the GED tests
  • College-bound students who want to improve their scores on Lane's placement tests or the Ability to Benefit test
  • Individuals in and out of the workforce who want to increase their employability
  • English language learners who want to improve their reading and writing skills
  • Students with developmental disabilities who are learning employment and life skills

Although there is no typical ABSE student, our students do have one thing in common – they're dedicated learners working to achieve personal, educational and career goals.

Instruction can be self-paced or guided through structured classes, individualized assistance, or small group work. Class times are flexible and offered days and evenings throughout the college district. All new students must attend an orientation before beginning classes.

(Please note: students with certain non-immigrant VISA types may not be eligible for ABSE classes. Please contact our office for more information.)

For more information, contact the Adult Basic and Secondary Education office at 541-463-5214, Monday through Thursday between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. or Friday 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
